Streatley High Street from St Mary's Church tower

Welcome

The village of Streatley is situated on the Berkshire side of the river Thames, in an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty (AONB). It is about 8 miles from Reading and 16 miles from Oxford, directly across the river from the village of Goring in Oxfordshire.

On the Ridgeway route from Silchester to Dorchester, the river crossing was originally a causeway built by the Romans. Streatley is recorded as a settlement in the Domesday Book of 1086, with the original St Mary's church dating from 1220.

The overall layout, character and shape of the village today is clearly discernible from the earliest 19th century maps with the High Street running up from the river ferry to The Bull public house.

The Parish Council represents the village of Streatley at the lowest tier of local government. It has a number of duties which it is bound to carry out, and a greater number of powers, which it may choose to carry out.
The Council has seven members, (councillors), who meet on the second Monday of each month at the Morrell Room, except during August.
